Decorating with Stripes and Patterns to Make a Room Look Larger

Decorating your apartment in Woodland Hills can be challenging; here are some tips on how to use patterns and stripes to make any room look larger.

Stripes have been a designer’s tool for tricking the eye into thinking that a room is longer or taller than it actually is.  If you have a narrow hall way, you can add a horizontal rug to make it appear wider.  If you orient a striped carpet to go the length of a room it will make the room look longer.  Striped curtains can make a room look taller or wider depending on the orientation and striped bed spreads can give the illusion of a longer (or wider) bedroom.  You can also use removal striped wall paper to have a similar affect.  Horizontal stripes will make a room wider (select wider stripes in one or two colors) and vertical stripes make it look taller.

Many people think that they can only use small patterns in a small room, but designers say the opposite is true.  Use big bold patters as smaller patterns will make a room look busy.  There are some great options in rugs and art work that make a focal point.  Another trick is to place bold prints furthest from the entry to a room in order to draw the eye and give the illusion of a larger room.

These are just a few tricks to make any room appear bigger than it actually is.
