Whether you rent an apartment in Anaheim or are a property owner, there are some basic things that you can do to get your home ready for Fall.
Fall cleaning is a great way to freshen up your space without spending a lot of money. Here are ten tips to fall cleaning tips you can use to get your home ready for the fall.
- Clean windows. A simple way to add sparkle to your home and to make it feel brighter is to clean the windows inside (and out, if it is possible). Don’t forget the window sashes. Use a squeegee for best results.
- Wipe down your baseboards. Dust and dirt loves to gather on baseboards and in the corners of any room. Use a dry mop or duster with a long handle if you don’t want to bend down to clean. Be cautious not to use anything wet until you have given them a good dry dusting first.
- Clean fans, lights and fixtures. It is easy to forget about lights and fans, out of sight; out of mind, but they are prone to gathering dust and dirt. Wipe down fans and bulbs with a damp cloth or for fan blades that are hard to reach use one of the many products available for this job.
- Clean out your refrigerator and pantry. Clear out items and check the expiration dates. Also do a “will I use” check and get rid of those items that don’t meet the criteria. Wipe down all of the shelves with warm sudsy water and re-organize your fridge and your pantry to make finding things easier. Use small baskets, step shelves and lazy Susans to collect similar items and help with organization.
- Change batteries. Fall (and Spring) are great times to check and change batteries including your smoke detectors.
- Clean out filters and vents. Filters and vents gather dust and dirt and cleaning them in the Fall is a great way to keep your home clean and allergen free. It only takes a few minutes to remove covers from bathroom fans and wipe them down. Turn off electricity and give them a quick vacuum. Don’t forget kitchen filters as well.
- Curtains/Blinds. While you are cleaning your windows, it is a good idea to wipe down the blinds and to wash curtains.
- Spruce up your deck. Cooler days and nights mean that your deck that may have been too hot in the summer are perfect for the fall. Wipe down your patio furniture, sweep the floor and add a colorful plant.
- Clean carpets/floors. If your space is carpeted, consider investing in a carpet shampooer or rent one. Wood and tile floors should be cleaned and polished.
- De-clutter closets. In addition to cleaning you can create more space by de-cluttering your closets. Get rid of clothing, toys, games and other items. Donate them to a local charity and help others while organizing your space.
