Let the Games Begin – Game Night in Your Woodland Hills Apartment

Looking for something fun to do this weekend with your friends or neighbors? How about hosting a game night?  Nothing brightens the mood than a night of colorful board games, comfort food and good company.  But rather than just pull out some of your old time favorites and ordering pizza, organize the party around your game(s) of choice.

Here are some tips to hosting a game night at your Woodland Hills apartment.

  1. Take stock of your games, are all the pieces in the box? Do you have pencils and paper to keep score?  Are the games appropriate for all of your guests?  (Children or guests where English is not their first language probably won’t enjoy scrabble or taboo.)
  2. Set up the playing area; this often means moving furniture or converting your dining table into a playing area or bringing in more chairs.
  3. Decide on food; finger foods are good, but make sure that they are not sticky or gooey so your cards, dice or game pieces don’t get messy.
  4. Assume that the games won’t begin until an hour after the party begins.
  5. Decorate for the theme, if you are having card night, purchase napkins or place cards and dice on a table covered with a red and black table cloth. Monopoly is an all-time favorite;  decorate your table with monopoly pieces or make signs or table cards using the streets from the famous board game.  Apples to Apples is a fun game and a theme that is easy to follow.  Bake an apple pie or apple crisp for desert.  Purchase fall themed paper goods with apples on them.  Decorate your mantel or table with a bowl of apples to get your guests in the mood.  These are just some ideas for decorating for your game night.
  6. Print and understand the rules. Take some time before the game starts to understand the rules and set a time before the game starts to explain the rules.
  7. Choose a fun prize for the winner and a booby prize for the person or team with the lowest score.
  8. Plan for your next game night.
